Our vineyard is managed by a small team of people who are very personally involved with its success.


Owner Charles Reichel spends hundreds of hours each season in the vineyard, monitoring the health of each block, controlling the amount of irrigation and amendments that each receives, and making sure that the fruit in each is able to reach its peak physiological ripeness before being harvested.

Leland Reichel, the son of owners Corinne and Charles, has a Bachelor’s of Science in Wine and Viticulture with a concentration in Viticulture from California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo, and works as a vineyard manager in Sonoma and Mendocino Counties. He assists his father in the Reichel Vineyard as much as possible and shares his experience with both new and traditional viticultural practices. He has also recently received his license as a Pest Control Advisor (PCA).

May-Britt and Denis Malbec, winemakers for our own wine brand, Respite Wines, are an integral part of the vineyard management. Their extensive knowledge in viticulture and winemaking help guide the direction for the entire vineyard. Prior to establishing their enological and viticultural consulting business in 2000, Denis was the third generation of his family to work at the famous Château Latour, beginning with his grandfather in the 1920's and continuing with his father who was Cellar Master from 1947 to 1994. Denis started in the cellar in 1993 and took over as Enologist and Cellar Master from 1994 to 2000. May-Britt began her wine industry career in Sweden as a sommelier in many of Stockholm's top restaurants before starting her own restaurant, Le Bateau. In 1992 she won the award for Best Sommelier in the Nordic Countries, and has served on several sommelier judging panels.
